Torrence Nelson, a Chicago native, is a worship leader, gospel recording artist, and educator whose music invites authentic encounters with Christ. Known for blending traditional gospel roots with contemporary worship, Torrence’s artistry reflects both spiritual depth and technical excellence. Currently serving as a worship leader at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Boston and music director for the world-renowned Harlem Gospel Choir, Torrence continues to expand his platform through performances, recordings, and upcoming national appearances. “Torrence’s voice carries both conviction and compassion—it’s gospel at its most powerful and personal,” notes one industry leader.
Raised in both Catholic and Baptist traditions, Torrence found his passion for music at an early age and pursued it wholeheartedly. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, he refined his craft through operas, musicals, and international tours, experiences that shaped his versatility as both a performer and leader. What sets him apart is his ability to merge artistry and ministry, whether touring globally with the Harlem Gospel Choir as a vocalist, music director, and production manager, or sharing the stage with gospel legends including Tye Tribbett, Donnie McClurkin, Jonathan Nelson, and Richard Smallwood.
His debut album, A Heart of Praise, won Album of the Year at the Angelic Awards in 2014, affirming his impact as both a recording artist and worship minister. His latest project, the Only You EP, showcases a matured sound with worship-centered songs that reflect his growth and spiritual intimacy. With a scheduled appearance on Bobby Jones Presents airing on the Impact Network, Torrence is reaching new audiences while staying grounded in his calling to lead people into transformative worship.
